SOCIAL SIDE
The social side of the Asian Games in Hong Kong will kick off with horse races in Happy Valley on
Wednesday 22nd September. The annual hosting of the Ireland cup will be on this night and there
will be a box reserved for all those wishing to attend. Drinks, food and betting kiosks will be
available in the box. The cost for the races will be approximately 600 HKD. We are currently
awaiting final confirmation from the Hong Kong Jockey club as to the calendar of racing for next
season, and will give final confirmation once this is released by the Jockey Club.
Thursday 23rd September the golfing arm of the Hong Kong GAA will be hosting the Asian Games
Golf Championship in Kau Sai Chau Golf Course. This will be open to both men and ladies, and
people of all standards will be welcomed to participate. Buses will pick people up and deliver
them to the course, buggies, food, drinks and prizes will be part of the package, with a junk trip
from Sai Kung delivering people back into Hong Kong’s harbour that evening upon conclusion. The
cost for the golf will be in the region of 900 HKD.
Friday will see the Asian Irish Business Forum being hosted by the Irish Chamber of Commerce of
Hong Kong. This will give any perspective entrepreneurs a superb opportunity to network with
others in the Asian region through discussion and break out sessions. Find out how others have
broken through in Asia, and how it could help your business.
Friday night the 24th will see the opening ceremony of the Asian Gaelic Games, at a venue to be
confirmed but there will be a bar and finger food. We are estimating this will be attended by
about 300 people. The venue will be close to the hotels so that patrons can either walk to the
venue, or get a minimal cost taxi.
Saturday and Sunday will see the games being in full swing. Saturday night there will be no official
function, but if teams want recommendations on restaurants or bars, the organisers will be happy
to provide.
Sunday night’s closing ceremony will be held in the BP International House Ballroom. This event
will cater for about 800 – 1000 people. The food and drinks menu will be decided closer to the
time, but will cater for as many alternative food groups as possible. There will be entertainment
at the venue. The aim will be to occupy the venue for about 3 hours, and then provide buses to
various social spots in Hong Kong. The buses will be provided free of charge and will head to
various destinations, Soho, Lan Kwai Fong, and Wanchai.....there will be drinks deals and offers in
place for wherever the buses are going to, as well as maps and directions issued to all participants
in the games on where they are, and where are the hot spots.
